When optimising for a keyword, or several keywords it’s very important to consider the anchor text you are using to build links to your website.
For example, if you are optimising for the keywords ‘Gadgets’ and ‘Gifts’ and are building hundreds of links all with the same anchor text this is not going to look as if the links were acquired naturally. Search engines will see the link profile as being manipulated and therefore rank your site accordingly (i.e. not good).
It’s very important to mix up your anchor text, so for example you could use the following variations:
‘Gadgets for Men’
‘Gifts for Men’
‘Gadgets Shop’
‘Gifts Shop’
‘Office Gadgets’
‘Office Gifts’
….You get the idea!
It’s good to also include some links with your company name as anchor text and your company website address again as anchor text.
Also it’s important to note that the keywords you are optimising for, in this case ‘Gadgets’ and ‘Gifts’ have the highest number of anchor text.
The more variation you have in your anchor text the better, the amount of variation really depends how competitive your keywords are. This is of course just one small part of SEO, the quality of the link is another very important factor which will be covered in another blog post.
